Week 2: Day 4 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 2 Day 4 of Work Placement at LIT: Today I had this morning off and started work at 14:00 pm. Checked email. Reviewed yesterdays work and plans for today. I exported the video made in Camtasia using the "Share" feature, to MP4 format using settings of : HD MP4 only (up to 720p.) Uploaded the video to OneDrive. Copied and edited a link to the video. Called ("OneDrive Videos 4".) I sent the MP4 link to the "OneDrive" video to my Work Placement Supervisor Alan. I took various photos of LIT for the Newsletter requirement of this Work Placement. Photos taken include, exterior of LIT, front and back views, various compositions, Interiors of: new wall banner from Cranberries added recently to The Street, sign-posts on The Street for IT Helpdesk and for Computer Center, IT kiosks, Main Computer Center, a Welcome poster at the Computer center saying "Welcome" in 15 languages. I read up on next videos and notes received from Stephen on: ...

Week 2: Day 3 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 2 Day 3 of Work Placement at LIT: I started at 9:00 am, checked email, reviewed yesterday's work. Worked with different ways of using the blur feature in the videos e.g. blue with zoom; blur with pan and with duration's of each of these types of animations. Made notes on findings, that will be useful for next videos on the list. Completed video on OneDrive with updates from yesterday. Proof read it and viewed, made any changes, reviewed it and saved this version. Working on the "Newsletter" for this Work Placement in Adobe Illustrator.

Week 2: Day 2 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 2 Day 2 of Work Placement at LIT: Started work at 9:00 am, checked email, reviewed plans for today. Following feedback from Stephen I made changes to the blurs being used for blanking out confidential information in the videos. I adjusted blur size to fit exactly to the information to which it was being applied. I then changed the opacity, so that the viewer would know that there was information there, however its exact content would not be revealed. This also added to the aesthetic of the video. Challenge encountered was the application of a blur to a "Zoom & Pan" animation. Normally, a feature applied to a clip applies to the entire clip, where it is then good practice to cut and split the clip into sections each having the required process. However, with "Zoom & Pan," I found that the blur applied to a clip became divided due to the animation on it (as opposed to applying it to the entire clip.) I tried out different potential solutions to this...

Week 2: Day 1 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 2 Day 1 of Work Placement at LIT: Started at 9:00 am, checked email, working on OneDrive e-learning video tutorial. Completed audio for parts 3 and 4 and edited same. Changed speed duration of some clips. Added animated "Zoom and Pan," for following the script and focus. I had some time in my lunch break to draw up a sketch of LIT, will trace it out in pencil add water-colour paints, this evening. Worked on learning more about the "blur feature," which is used to scan out confidential information that may otherwise be displayed on the computer screen e.g. users id, photo etc. Applied blur to all relevant areas of the tutorial. Completed e-learning video. Next step is rendering to MP4 tomorrow morning. Finished work at 5:30 pm.

Week 1: Day 5 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1 Day 5 of Work Placement at LIT: Started work at 9:00 am. Checked email.  Watched the OneDrive video I was working on yesterday and continued to work on it today. I applied zoom and pan features, clipping and adjusting speeds of clips to audio and video for the first two parts of this overall video. Meeting with Supervisor Alan Ryan this morning discussing Work Placement. The following is a link to the Timetable video I created earlier this week. Link to Timetable Video via Attachment Meeting with Stephen, reviewed my work on the OneDrive video. He planned out the next tutorials for David and I to work on. These will be: What to do with Suspicious Emails. How to use the Plotter Printer. Link to Plotter Instructions I did some work on transferring links between files in OneDrive and this Blog: 1. Upload file to OneDrive. 2. Right click on the file details and select "Get Link." 3. Click "Copy" link. 4. Copy and Paste link into a Word Docu...

Week 1: Day 4 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1 Day 4 of Work Placement: Started work at 9:00 am. Viewed emails. We wrote the script for the Online Excel Microsoft application. Working on OneDrive video tutorial. OneDrive is the cloud that connects all Microsoft products and services. It offers a simple way to store, sync and share all kinds of files with other people and devices on the web. Recorded a video and audio and refined the script based on this recording. Used sample student account Stephen provided for us and I created a sample document for the purposes of the videos. I added a watermark to the document saying "sample document" in case a student may think it was instructions to follow. For the screen capture and audio recording steps, I imported the introductory clip to a new project in Camtasia. For the previous video for students on how to access their "Timetable," my approach was to record the video and audio separately and then edit to match them. Today, I tried out a different appr...

Week 1: Day 3 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1 Day 3 of Work Placement: Started work at 9:00 am. Checked mail. Viewed completed video on "How to access your Timetable" from the Student Portal, from yesterday. Watched the Camtasia tutorial videos again to refresh. Increased the audio of the video slightly by dragging upwards the audio bar. Exported and shared the above video (MP4 720p) using One Drive to Stephen. I received a confirmation email of same. I noticed on this confirmation email that there was a link to "Delve," where the user can view projects other people are working on and can add their own projects. I then went to the home page of "Delve" at: https://eur.delve.office.com, and read about this topic. Updated the video with a "blur" on my Knumber for privacy and shared the new version to Stephen's account on One Drive. Things I have learned as improvements for making these videos: careful attention to transitions between zoomed and static clips and sequentia...

Week 1: Day 2 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1 Day 2 of Work Placement at LIT (20/06/2017): Started work at 9:00am, checked my email and got working on the videos using Camtasia software. I found that when I opened Camtasia that the zoom seemed to be missing from the latest saved file. I then uploaded the same file I had saved onto my memory stick to the programme and it had the zoom saved. I copied this and worked from this file. Yesterday, I had made the screen-captures based on the draft script and worked on matching up the audio to that today. From yesterday, I had set a zoom on the "login details." Today, I set the zoom on: the "View Timetable" and the "Timetable search filters section." To do this I clipped the start and end of the area of this clip I required and applied use of  the "Scale" tool from the properties pane to this clip. I removed extra mouse movement at the "View Timetable" section. Added fade-in transitions between clips. I then looked for infor...

Week 1: Day 1 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1 Day 1 of Work Placement at LIT (19/06/2017): Started work at 9:00 am. Stephen activated the Camtasia software on our computers and we copied two source files: "It started in LIT" "Intro Music" onto our desktops. These I will be importing into Camtasia. Listened to and made notes on the Camtasia introduction video. Looks very interesting. I watched some of the tutorials in Camtasia and made summary notes on same. There are two videos for us to get started with on how to access: Software Timetables in the LIT Student Portal. Stephen gave us instructions on what is required in these videos we make and to write up a script for these processes and brought up microphones to use for recording of the audio. David and I worked together on the scripts, and with our combined ideas we produced two versions. We then split the work where I worked on the video for the Timetables and David worked on that for the Software. I practiced the recording a...

Work Placement Meetings

Work Placement Meetings I sent the proposed brief from the first blog to our Co-Coordinator Lorraine and then met with her on Tuesday 13/06/2017. We discussed the proposed project and I found that the project was to be for a client. Lorraine suggested a Work Placement in the IT Department and that it may also link in with part of my briefs' objective to learn an e-learning software application and produce e-learning tutorials from this. I was delighted with this opportunity where it would involved learning and developing skills in e-learning for a real-life working environment, at LIT. These videos to make are for first year students to help them with LIT, IT processes and tasks. Looking forward to starting work. Another member of our class David and I will be working together on these videos. Lorraine informed us of a meeting with the IT Manager Alan Barry on Friday 16/06/2017 at 10:00am. We all met on Friday and Alan informed us of the processes and requirements. Our start da...

Proposed Project Brief

Image
Week 1  Work Placement Creative Multimedia Programming   Term 3   2017 I am interested in working in IT research which is why I approached this Work Experience from the point of view of a Research Project and presenting my findings in an e-learning tutorial. The research area I am interested in is Adaptive/Responsive Web Design. In terms of learning new software I have proposed the e-learning software of ATOMI Active Presenter. This is also SCORM compliant and in this way would link in well with LIT use of Moodle. For the design side of this course I am putting forward the idea of creating artistic posters about current topics in society. As there is a lot of gray areas of uncertainty associated with RWD and AWD, I thought it a relevant and useful area to explore. I came across the ATOMI software and signed up for the Student Professional version, as I decided it would be an area I would like to learn about in the future for benefit of my career. I decided that this i...
