Week 1: Day 4 of Work Placement at LIT

Week 1
Day 4 of Work Placement:

Started work at 9:00 am. Viewed emails. We wrote the script for the Online Excel Microsoft application.

Working on OneDrive video tutorial. OneDrive is the cloud that connects all Microsoft products and services. It offers a simple way to store, sync and share all kinds of files with other people and devices on the web.

Recorded a video and audio and refined the script based on this recording. Used sample student account Stephen provided for us and I created a sample document for the purposes of the videos. I added a watermark to the document saying "sample document" in case a student may think it was instructions to follow.

For the screen capture and audio recording steps, I imported the introductory clip to a new project in Camtasia. For the previous video for students on how to access their "Timetable," my approach was to record the video and audio separately and then edit to match them. Today, I tried out a different approach, of recording the video screen-captures and audio at the same time. Thinking for this is that in this way the audio and screen-captures would march exactly.

I did a trial run of this approach and it worked quite well. On talking with Stephen yesterday and today, I decided to divide the video tutorial into sections as the content to be covered can be lengthy and I expect at this point for the video to be approximately four minutes.

The video naturally falls into four headings of how to:
1) Access OneDrive.
2) Upload a file.
3) Share a file.
4) Download a file.

I then, announced this list at the start of the video, to show to the user the structure of the video. I started recording and then with feedback refined it further. I recorded in these four separate sections. Also, at the start of each section, I will include a title slide to announce each new part. When I was talking about this idea, Stephen was saying there would also be another advantage to using these title slides, in that students can scan through the video and select the parts they want to view based on the title slides.

I set up a page on OneNote for exchange of information and ideas between Stephen, David and I. We received a list of next video tutorials to make from Stephen as follows:

  1. How to save\ share & download from One Drive
  2. Access email on mobile devices

I put together a list of an information request on the background, structure and functioning of LIT, IT department for possible information to add to what I intend to add as part 1 of the "Newsletter." The Newsletter is a requirement of this Work Placement that is due on the 30/06/2017. A second Newsletter is due on 30/06/2017. The information I am gathering now, as well as work being carried out and completed, I intend to be part of the content of the "Final Report" due 31/08/2017.
The email I sent and content that I placed in OneNote is as follows:

"The Newsletters for the Work Placement are due for the end of each month.
This first newsletter we spoke about earlier is due for 30/06/2017. I would like
to include as much as possible of the following for Part 1 of this Newsletter. Also,
