In 2014 Google announced that it was starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. Last month Google announced that its Chrome Browser will be displaying a "Not Secure" warning message for unencrypted webpages. What this means for the web developer is that this above message will appear in the address bar of websites not running HTTPS protocol. This has the effect that if not HTTPS present the viewer of the webpage will see this "Not Secure" warning, which will clearly be off-putting.
