Week 4
Day 4 of Work Experience at LIT
Started at 9:00 am, checked email, and made plans for the day. Nice picture of the day:
Using the "Placement Policy and Guidelines" document, I extracted important headings for the next "Newsletter_July 2017" and for the "Final Report" due in August:

Having spoken with the IT Manager Alan, I reviewed the Atomi Active Presenter software, and will have another looks at it over the weekend. They have also recently launched a new product called "Saola Animate" that is a HTML5 Animation Creation Software.

Final Report: update of details for
Month 1:
Requirements drawn from “Placement
Policy and Guidelines Handbook.”
Aims and Learning Outcomes of the work placement is to be compatible
with those of the course.
1.0 The following is how the placement contributes to the programme of
study:
Development of Professional Skills:
professionalism, honesty and integrity, adaptability, problem-solving,
dependability, reliability, responsibility, positive attitude, self-confidence,
motivation, energy, willingness to learn, teamwork, organisation, planning.
Competencies: Camtasia, Adobe
Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver.
Strengthen application of theory to
practice in the context of lifelong learning and CPD: learning of new software
and the application of this in the work place. Working towards Adobe
certification as a longer-term goal.
Clear articulation of role: within
the CSD, the creating of e-learning videos for staff and students for IT
processes regularly used by these staff and students.
2.0 To educate and understand how a “work environment” relates to and
informs personal, career, and future professional development:
Interactivity with staff within and
from other departments, learning about their interactivity and overlap of work
between departments.
Structure and organisation to the
working day.
A work environment of set
hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, Friday 9:00 am –
4:00 pm.
Team meetings: to see where we are at in the projects, and
making sure there is no duplication of work effort. Planning of next steps
ahead. Planning contingencies. These ties in with the Project Management aspect
of this course.
Meeting deadlines: to get projects completed on time and to
the required standard.
Contribution to future professional development are:
Working in the area of E-Learning is the area in which I
would like to progress. Having learned Camtasia software, including training, scripting,
recordings of audios and screen-captures for videos.
The learning of the Adobe products, for to contribute to a longer-term
goal of the Adobe exams and Adobe Certification.
3.0 A positive
academic experience:
Learned personal, professional and technical skills for
life, for further career progression and employment opportunities. Have met and
got to know lots of new people.
4.0 Enhance students’
familiarity with the world of work and enable them to reflect constructively on
that experience:
A structured workday working hours, fulfilling briefs,
meeting deadlines. Work process progression in terms of similar to the “Agile Project
Management Framework,” studied in this course. Here, I show my work at each
stage of development to the Supervisor. In this way, changes can be made to
enhance the work at early stages of the project.
In terms of reflecting constructively on that experience, I originally
had planned a research project for this work placement. This included among
other items, an objective of creating an e-learning tutorial. My subsequent
placement in the Computer Services Department in LIT, was directly relevant to
this e-learning idea. On reflection, it got me working at things that are more
practical like making e-learning video’s and use of Adobe products.
Training provided of learning the IT procedures of the CSD
department for the making of e-learning videos for staff and students was
excellent. This experience provided a window of knowledge into the links of
other departments to the CSD.
This involved the application of theory to practice, which
is a feature of the LIT Philosophy.
5.0 Placement Supervisor,
my requirements to send on necessary documentation: here I am sending on “Videos”
and “Newsletters” to the Placement Supervisor Alan Ryan, as they are completed.
